Girl Tuesday Keeps Unbeaten Record Intact

Mark Smith - Thursday October 18

Exciting mare Girl Tuesday extended her unbeaten sequence to four in a benchmark 76 over 1800 metres on the Randwick Kensington track on Wednesday.

The Chris Waller-trained daughter of Street Cry (IRE) was sent off a long odds-on favourite under Hugh Bowman but was made to work for her win by her imported stablemate Mazaz (IRE) (Galileo).

When she looked to be in some trouble 200 metres out, Girl Tuesday dug in impressively over the final stages to safely hold Mazaz (IRE) by three-quarters of a length with Lady Evelyn (Reset) two lengths back in third.

Stable representative Charlie Duckworth said the late-developing 4yo mare would take plenty of benefit from the run.

"You can see from the first part of the race she's still a little bit new and raw, that's why we are taking her through the grades," Duckworth told Sky Racing.

"She can still be slow away and Hughie gave her a nice ride to keep her out of trouble. We thought she would stay and she obviously does based on today's performance.

"She's going to continue to progress and hopefully continue to make the necessary steps. I'm sure that with each and every run she will continue to improve."

A homebred for John Singleton's Strawberry Hill Stud, Girl Tuesday is a daughter of Singleton's star mare Tuesday Joy.

The daughter of Carnegie won four at the highest level, the Coolmore Classic, The BMW, Queen Elizabeth Stakes and the Chipping Norton Stakes on the way to a record of seven wins and nine places with earnings of $3,240,450.

She is a half-sister to Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks heroine Sunday Joy (Sunday Silence), who is the dam of the 8-time Group 1 winner More Joyous (More Than Ready).

A daughter of the Group 1 Queensland Oaks winner Joie Denise (Danehill) and a granddaughter of the famed Denise's Joy, Tuesday Joy has a 3yo Snitzel filly named Tuesday Special who is yet to race.

After missing to Snitzel in 2015 and Savabeel in 2016, Tuesday Joy was covered by Savabeel again last spring.
