Trekking Parachuted In To The Everest

Mark Smith - Saturday October 12

Godolphin will have a second runner in the $14 million Everest at Randwick if they accept with Trekking who earned a golden ticket with his win in Saturday's Schillaci Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield.

Sepoy's top-class daughter Alizee had already filled the Godolphin slot in the race.

Beaten one and a quarter lengths into eighth place in the Group 1 Moir Stakes behind fellow Everest runner Nature Strip at his most recent start, Trekking looked to have the task ahead of him to run down the free-striding Ball Of Muscle in the Schillaci.

Kerrin McEvoy was forced to make his challenge on the inside of the Joe Pride trained runner but he didn't shirk his task to win by a long neck with The Bostonian the same margin back in third. (images Grant Courtney ).

The winner of the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm in June, Trekking advances his record to 9 wins, 2 seconds and 3 thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $1,801,495.

The Schillaci winner is offered the Melbourne Racing Club's slot in The Everest (1200m) and connections have until midway through Sunday to accept.

"It's on the table," Cummings told AAP.

"We've got the opportunity to take full advantage of the time up until mid-day tomorrow to make our decision.

"But I'll be on the phone to the boys in the morning and I'll be seeing how the horse has pulled up because his health and welfare will come first.

"It's going to come down to a little bit more than that. We've got our own slot in the race already. The fact that Ball Of Muscle ran second, I suppose they are going to be hanging on our decision.

"But Trekking is a marvellous horse. He's unbeaten at Randwick in two starts there and he certainly wouldn't look out of place as a dominant Stradbroke winner and he flew with the fastest last furlong fresh up in the Group One Moir.

"Here I am making the case for him but really the horse is going to be the one that's going to tell us in the morning."

Bred by Darley, Trekking is the first foal of the 3-time winning Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor who was a daughter of the Champion 3YO filly in Australia in 2006, Serenade Rose.

A daughter of Stravinsky (USA), Serenade Rose won the Group 1 VRC Oaks, Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks and Group 1 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes.

She had just three foals before her death in November 2011.

Outdoor has a 3yo Lonhro colt named Jetski who has won his last two starts at Gosford and Kembla.

Not served in 2016, Outdoor had a Street Boss (USA) foal last spring that was destroyed after birth.

Outdoor was bred back to Ribchester (IRE) last spring.
