Street Cry's Trekking Opens Stakes Account

Mark Smith - Sunday September 30

In danger of being caught behind a tiring Booker, Trekking's rider Kerrin McEvoy needed to give Brave Song the hip and shoulder to find clear running in Sunday's Listed Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield. and once he found clear air the son of Street Cry (IRE) came away for a commanding win

It was the first stakes win for the heavily backed 4yo gelding who defeated Kemono (JPN) (Kinshasa No Kiseki) by one and a quarter lengths with the outsider Heart Of A Lion (Lion Heart) running on well to grab third a further half a length back. (photo Grant Courtney)

The Godolphin colour-bearer can boast placings behind Trapeze Artist in the Group III Black Opal stakes, behind Menari in the Listed The Rosebud and behind Eptimum in the Group III Black Opal Stakes.

"He's getting confidence with each win," McEvoy said.

"I was third the fence and had to do a bit of a push and shove to get out, but he had the gears required to get out and get going and win the race."

Trainer James Cummings said they have not set the Street Cry gelding any lofty goals.

"It's great to see one of our horses drew a nice barrier and get a nice run at Caulfield, which has been a bit hard the last couple of weeks.

"He came down here in good form, he's really had a great preparation so far, he's gone ahead since his last run and he is airborne. It's his second preparation as a gelding and he is really rewarding us."

Bred by Darley, Trekking is the first foal of the 3-time winning Redoute's Choice mare Outdoor who was a daughter of Champion 3YO filly in Australia in 2006, Serenade Rose.

A daughter of Stravinsky (USA), Serenade Rose won the Group 1 VRC Oaks, Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks and Group 1 STC Arrowfield Stud Stakes.

She had just three foals before her death in November 2011.

Outdoor has an unraced 3yo colt by Medaglia d'Oro named Paraglide, a 2yo Lonhro colt named Jetski and was covered by street Boss (USA) last spring having not been served in 2016.

Trekking becomes the 124th stakes-winner for the deceased Street Cry (IRE).
