This season's foals from famous mothers

Breednet - Tuesday September 11
Sometimes when you're dealing with the foal photos coming in for the Breednet Foal Gallery one really catches your eye, and when it's out of a mare that won the Australian Oaks by 10 lengths you have an extra look so here's one fancy foal from a famous mum, and while we're at it, a few others out of mares that covered themselves in glory on the racetrack.

The foal in question is the below filly from Gerry Harvey's Westbury Stud in New Zealand, out of 10 length ATC Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent by Redwood (GB).

Royal Descent, as famous as she was for winning the Oaks possibly became even better known for her consistency at the top level without winning.

When she retired she had won five races from 31 starts but been placed a further 15 times which included placings in the George Main Stakes twice, The Doncaster Mile twice, The Epsom Handicap, Turnbull Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Here are some other foals this year from stakes winning mares:

By American Pharoah out of Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond placegetter Lake Geneva. Photographed at Coolmore Stud.

By Pierro from Champion Australian 3YO filly 2014/2015 Delicacy. Photographed by Joan Faras at Holbrook Thoroughbreds.

A colt by Snitzel out of three time Group One winner Lucia Valentina, who's majors included victory in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Provided by breeder Lib Petagna.

Another Snitzel, this time a filly out of VRC Myer Classic winner Politeness at Arrowfield Stud.

A filly by Tarzino out of Group 3 winner Clarify at Westbury Stud, NZ.

A colt  Shooting To Win out of four time stakes winner Fire Up Fifi at Widden Stud.

A colt by Cable Bay out of Ondina at Woodside  Park.
