Pierro
is a good sire to follow at this time of year given the way his three year-olds
jumped out of the ground last spring and this impressive winner from the Tony McEvoy
stable at Wodonga on Monday is a name to note.
Pierro Belle finished last and pulled up lame when making her debut at
Flemington back in February in a stakes race won by Prairie Fire, but put the
memory of that inglorious outing behind her with a very impressive return to
form.
She jumped well and stalked the leader before surging past to win the 1100
metre by more than two lengths as favourite.
Entered for the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas, Pierro Belle was a $300,000
Inglis Easter purchase from the Newgate Farm draft for McEvoy Mitchell Racing
and runs for PM Racing Enterprise.
Bred by SF Bloodstock and foaled and raised at Newgate Farm, Pierro Belle is the
second winner from classy Group III winning Testa Rossa mare Pane in the Glass,
who was also Group I placed.
Newgate sold a Deep Field yearling filly from Pane in the Glass at Inglis
Easter this year with McEvoy Mitchell again signing the docket at $360,000.
Pane in the Glass has a yearling filly by Snitzel and was covered by Newgate Farm’s
Golden Slipper winner Capitalist last spring.
