One to Watch – Belmont

Tara Madgwick - Thursday August 30
Well known WA owner breeders Bob and Sandra Peters have already had some luck with Pierro, who sired their Group II WA Derby winner Action and they will no doubt have similar aspirations for his brother-in-blood who won easily at Belmont on Thursday.

PierroPrepared by Grant and Alana Williams, three year-old gelding True Defender was second on debut at the same venue at the end of June and retirned from a short break as a hot favourite.

He powered home from back in the field to win the 1300 metre maiden by a length and a quarter.

True Defender is the third winner from three foals to race from Redoute’s Choice mare Antique Rose, a winning full sister to stakes-winner Broadway Belle, the dam of Group II WATC Derby winner Action and recent Breednet ‘One to Watch; Regal Power (read about him here).

Golden Slipper winner Pierro was the Champion First and Second Season Sire for the past two seasons and stands at Coolmore this spring at a fee of $88,000.
