Breeders that supported Arrowfield Stud's Japanese shuttlers Maurice (JPN) and Mikki Isle (JPN) will look on with interest as their first foals go under the hammer in Tuesday's foal session of the JHRA Select Sale.
They didn't have to wait long as the sixth lot in the ring, Shadai Farm's Mikki Isle – My Jen colt was purchased by Ryotokuji Kenji Holdings for 22 million yen ($A265,000).
Interestingly, My Jen (Fusaichi Pegasus) is a Grade II-winning half-sister to Coolmore's dual Group 1 winning Scat Daddy colt Caravaggio who makes his Australian debut at Coolmore's Jerry Plains property in the upcoming spring.
A son of Deep Impact Mikki Isle won the Group 1 Mile Championship at Kyoto and the Group 1 NHK Mile Cup at Tokyo on the wait to being crowned the Champion Sprinter and Miler in Japan in 2016.
He stands at Arrowfield Stud in 2018 at a fee of $13,750.
As the Mikki Isle colt left the ring, the first Maurice foal to be offered entered alongside her dam Mecha Corta (ARG).
As can be seen from our review of the yearling sale, Japanese breeders have been active in securing top racemares from Argentina and here's another one.
A daughter of E Corredor (USA), Mecha Corta (ARG) was a 4-time winner in her homeland, most notably in the Group 1 Gran Premio Mil Guineas.
Her Maurice foal caught the eye of Masaaki Kumeta who needed to shell out $42 million yen ($A512,000) for the Northern Farm consigned filly.
A 6-time Group 1 winning son of Screen Hero, Maurice was honoured as the Horse Of The Year, Champion Sprinter and Champion Miler in Japan on 2015
He stands the upcoming season at Arrowfield Stud for a fee of $33,000.
