Oaks Goal for Americain filly

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 11
Toowoomba trainer John Zielke has high hopes for Americain (USA) filly Queen Consort, who cast off maiden status with a powerful win at Ipswich on Friday.

Queen Consort as a yearlingFourth on debut at Gatton last month, Queen Consort improved sharply at her second start with a step up in distance to 1680 metres.

She settled fourth for Luke Dittman in the run and powered to the line to win running away beating older rivals by more than a length.

"We bought her down in Melbourne with the idea of winning an Oaks with her," Zielke revealed in his post-race comments.

"She's by the Melbourne Cup winner Americain and she seems like she'll stay all day."

Bought from the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale by Evan Hartley's Dovedeen Pty Ltd, she was plucked from the Swettenham Stud draft for $36,000.

Queen Consort is the fourth winner from smart metropolitan winning Flying Spur mare Princess Isabella, who comes from the family of Group I winners Shogun Lodge, Referral and Singing the Blues.

Queen Consort is the second Australian winner for Americain, who stands at Swettenham Stud this spring at a fee of $11,000
