Seven days after racing Merchant Navy in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, Sir Dancealot (by Sir Prancealot) has backed up to take out his first Group race victory in the Criterion Stakes at Newmarket.
The David Elsworth-trained gelding appreciated the step back up to seven furlongs as he returned to winning ways in the Group Three contest.
Settling at the rear of the field, the four-year-old came with a scorching run to sweep past his rivals around a furlong from home before holding So Beloved at bay by a length.
Elsworth said of the winner: "This horse went up to Scotland (Hamilton) the other day and never turned a hair. You could bring him in to watch television. He is a lovely horse.
"He would get a mile if they ran a race like that, as they didn't go a gallop. He is in the G2 Lennox Stakes (over 7 furlongs at Glorious Goodwood), so we will look at that."
Sir Dancealot has capped off a run of stakes performances for Cornerstone Stud based stallions Sir Prancealot and Zebedee.
After three successive victories Sandra's Secret (by Zebedee) picked up black type running second in the Listed Ayr Land O'Burns Stakes. The five-year-old mare is testament to the toughness of the breed having been a winner at two and racing on to be a multiple winner and stakes placed at five.
Swallow Street, Hastotrike, Lexington Grace have also been recently placed in stakes races for Sir Prancealot.
Sir Prancealot and Zebedee are standing at a fee of $14,300 inc. GST this season.
