Nine
juvenile heats at the Rosehill trials on Monday morning featured some
interesting winners but none more so than the most expensive yearling from the
first crop of Champion 3YO Dundeel from Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO
and 3YO Miss Finland.
Two year old colt Nordicus quickly put his sire into the spotlight at the 2017
Magic Millions when he fetched $900,000 for Arrowfield Stud when signed for by Boomer
Bloodstock.
Given to Bjorn Baker to train, the colt runs for a syndicate headed by Bjorn
Baker Racing that also includes several other parties including Arrowfield Stud.
Nordicus was second at his first trial on June 8 and showed good improvement
from that to hit the line stylishly and win his 910 metre heat by a length and
a half with Blake Shinn in the saddle.
Nordicus is certainly bred to be something special as a half-brother to Group I
winner Stay With Me and stakes-placed Earth Angel and Woodbine.
After the trial Bjorn Baker Tweeted -2yo
colt Nordicus (Dundeel x Miss Finland) impressed me again this morning at the @rosehillgardens trials. He may
make his debut at Canterbury next Wednesday over 1250m.
His time of 55.57 seconds was better marginally only by his stablemate Green Aeon, a
half-brother by Snitzel to Group I winner Politeness.
He showed good pace from the gates at his first trial to push forward and lead before
holding on to win narrowly over fast finishing Couvre Lit, an experienced Godolphin
juvenile that won at Warwick Farm in February.
A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Sun Stud draft for Magus Equine,
Green Aeon is seeking to be the fourth winner from good [producer Berengaria.
