Four
year-old Shamardal stallion Blue Point produced a career best performance to win
in the Group I King's Stand Stakes (5f) for Godolphin at Royal Ascot.
The Charlie Appleby trained entire scored a dominant length and three-quarter
win over Bataash with the favourite Lady Aurelia battling home in seventh
place.
It was the first Group I win for Blue Point, who placed at Royal Ascot in the
Group I Commonwealth Cup last year and has been a globetrotter this year placing
in Dubai In February before finishing down the track at Sha Tin in the Group I
Chairman's Sprint Prize.
"Blue Point brings his A game' here. The stiff track suits him. I've always
thought a lot of this horse since his two-year-old career. Plenty of pace suits
him too. William (Buick) gave him a copybook ride. He got a lovely lead into
him and picked up well," said Charlie Appleby.
With six wins and five placings from 13 starts, Blue Point is talented and
consistent and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Formosina from Royal Applause
mare Scarlett Rose.
He is one of 118 stakes-winners for Darley's Shamardal, who shuttled with great
success to Australia earlier in his career.
