$300,00 Fastnet Rock Colt Tops Inglis Great Southern Weanlings

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 17
A powerful colt by champion sire Fastnet Rock was a pedigree standout and duly topped the first day of the Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale in Melbourne on Sunday when fetching $300,000 for Rosemont Stud.

$300,000 Fastnet Rock colt, image Darryl ShererA half-brother to European Group III winner Cartaya and stakes-placed Elabela, he is the seventh foal of Benalmadena (Fr), a half-sister to the dam of this year's Group I Longchamp Prix d'Ispahan winner Recoletos and this year's Group III Saint-Cloud Prix Cleopatre winner Castellar.

Bidding on the star colt with a hot and happening pedigree opened at $100,000 and ended at $300,000 to sell to a partnership of Kia Ora Stud and Bhima Thoroughbreds.

The colt is destined to be sold again next year as a yearling revealed Kia Ora's Alex Kingston.

"We haven't got a Fastnet Rock colt this year and he was probably the stand out at this sale for us," Kingston told Darryl Sherer of Racenet.

"He had a great walk, great disposition, beautiful head and I'm really excited to have him to sell next year.

"We were underbidder on a lot at the Gold Coast and I just came down here on the off chance we'd find something and we did.

"We were getting close to our limit but it's great to have got him."
