Belardo's Sire Lope de Vega Continues Magic Run

Santa Ana Lane (Aus) (Lope De Vega) continued a fantastic season for Lope De Vega (Ire) (Shamardal) when taking out the G1 Stradbroke Handicap at Doomben on Saturday making it back-to-back G1 successes after victory in the G1 Goodwood in the middle of May, and in doing so, created history as the first horse to ever achieve the Stradbroke/Goodwood double.

BelardoThe third of his G1 victories having also won the Sir Rupert Clark Stakes during the Melbourne Spring, Santa Ana Lane looks a prime contender for a spot in the coveted Everest, later in the year.

A member of Lope De Vega's first Southern Hemisphere crop, Santa Ana Lane joins Vega Magic as a multiple G1 winner for his sire in Australia, with Vega Magic successful in last season's G1 Goodwood along with the G1 Memsie Stakes en route to a runner-up performance in Australia's richest race, The Everest.

On this side of the Tasman, Lope De Vega has made his presence felt in the fillies ranks with stakes winning two-year-olds Spanish Whisper and Rubira successful in the G2 Matamata Breeders' Stakes and Listed Champagne Stakes respectively.

New Zealand breeders have the unique opportunity to tap into the Lope De Vega sire line through Belardo, the only son of Lope De Vega at stud in Australasia.
