The well-related New Zealand-bred Heir To The Throne remains an outside chance to make the Group I Queensland Derby (2200m) field.
The brother to the Gr.1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) winner Prince Of Penzance was a trial winner over 1270m at the Sunshine Coast this morning and will run there on Sunday over 1600m in a bid to gain a start in the Doomben feature on June 10.
"There has never been any real rush with him, but they are only three once," trainer Henry Dwyer said.
"You have Prince of Penzance in the family, but it would be good to get some more black type.
"He's a nice horse who has always shown good staying ability and it's our last-ditch attempt to get him to a Derby."
Heir To The Throne was purchased by Dwyer at Karaka in 2016 for $200,000 out of the draft of Rich Hill Stud, who has retained an interest in the Pentire gelding. - NZ Racing Desk
