Merrygowin Produces the Goods on Two Year Anniversary

Media Release - Monday April 30

Almost exactly two years since his purchase on gavelhouse in the first online auction held by the New Zealand Bloodstock-owned site Merrygowin took his career earnings to nearly five and a half times his purchase price with a win at Happy Valley.

Trained by Paul O'Sullivan, the son of Castledale was secured for $68,000 and has since amassed HK$1.9 million courtesy of two wins and six placings from 21 starts.

MerrygowinPrepared to win a trial at Foxton by Awapuni-based conditioner Gary Vile,  Merrygowin  was offered on account of Wayne Larsen's Te Runga Stud who stood Castledale.

Stepping up over the mile for the first time and carrying the equal top weight of 60.5kg he settled well in fourth with good speed in the race during the mid-stages.

Having shot clear on the inside in the straight he managed to hold on with a nose the winning margin from the lesser weighted swoopers Gentry and a further head to Sparkling Sword.

The current 60-Lot gavelhouse.com New Zealand catalogue is set to close from 7pm Monday 30 April. Meanwhile entries for the next fortnightly gavelhouse.com Australia auction are set to close at 7pm AEST Monday 30 April with the catalogue set to go live at 5pm on Tuesday 1 May and close from 7pm on Monday 7 May.
