Yearling Inspections Underway for VOBIS Gold Sale

Media Release - Wednesday April 18

Yearlings by the likes of Snitzel, Spirit of Boom, Written Tycoon, Zoustar and More Than Ready highlight a strong Supplementary catalogue for Sunday's VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale at Oaklands.

Fresh from a successful fortnight of action in Sydney around the Australian Easter Yearling Sale, focus now switches to Melbourne for Sunday's sixth annual Inglis VOBIS Gold Sale.

The sale has again attracted a strong catalogue, where every yearling offered is Super VOBIS qualified - making them eligible for millions of dollars of bonuses through the VOBIS incentive scheme during their 2YO and 3YO racing seasons - and also eligible to be nominated for the VOBIS Gold bonuses.

Additionally, the progeny of VOBIS Sires'-nominated stallions will be eligible to contest the inaugural $1 million landmark two-year-old event, "The Showdown", at Caulfield in 2019.

Written TycoonThe main catalogue of 247 yearlings, combined with a Supplementary catalogue of 29 Lots, includes progeny by leading sires such as Written Tycoon, I Am Invincible, Snitzel, Spirit Of Boom, Zoustar, Smart Missile, All Too Hard, Reward For Effort, Magnus and More Than Ready and First Season Sires such as Brazen Beau, Dissident, Rubick, Toronado and Wandjina.

Highlights of the Supplementary catalogue include:

  • Lot 248, a bay colt by Australasia's latest "boom" sire, Spirit of Boom. This attractive colt from Rosemont Stud is the second foal of a half sister to the dual stakes winner King Kool Kat and comes from the great Eight Carat family

  • Lot 255, a bay colt by the sire sensation Written Tycoon from the three-time winning Pins mare Ellepin Gal. This colt is a brother to two winners including Aunty Mo, a three-time Melbourne winner of over $130,000

  • Lot 259, a chestnut filly by Sunlight's sire Zoustar from the Stakes-placed mare It's All For You. This great international pedigree offers extraordinary dual-purpose opportunities

  • Lot 261, a bay colt by Australasia's champion sire Snitzel from Dubawi's Group 3-winning daughter Lady Of Harrods

  • Lot 276, a chestnut filly by More Than Ready, a super sire of over 180 Stakes winners. This filly is from the Kingmambo mare Three Rainbows (Ire) and is a half sister to the Stakes-placed Triband.

The VOBIS Gold Sale has produced some outstanding results in recent years, none better than the likes of Group 1 winner Malaguerra (cost $32k, has won $1.7m), Lyuba (cost $2k, has won $440k), Sirbible (cost $3.5k, won $325k), Desert Lashes (cost $3k, has won $335k) and Beau Rada (cost $26k, has won $355k).

On-site inspections for the sale at the Inglis complex at Oaklands Junction began at midday today when Bucklee Farm, Bombora Downs and Supreme Thoroughbreds started their yearling parades.

The majority of the catalogue will be available for inspection tomorrow, while all horses will be on site and parading by Friday.
