Tamalee Farm Dispersal Features Hidden Gems

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday April 18
Bruce McHugh's Tamalee Farm near Tamworth is holding an on farm Dispersal Sale on Sunday May 6 featuring broodmares, weanlings, yearlings, racehorses and the resident stallion Arlington, as well as the dam of Group III winner Spright.

ArlingtonConducted by Burke and Smyth Stock and Station agents, the catalogue features some 50 horses with many of the broodmares in foal to Arlington, who is the sire of all of the weanlings and yearlings.

A superbly bred half-brother by Red Ransom (USA) to Cox Plate winner and champion New Zealand sire Savabeel, Arlington made $1.55 million at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

A stunning individual that showed Group I ability with a placing in the Group I AJC Randwick Guineas, Arlington has proven a reliable source of winners that include smart Tamworth trained gelding The Lion.

Trained by Michelle Fleming, The Lion (image Steve Hart) has won three races and placed three times earning nearly $80,000 in prizemoney.

The Lion is a smart Sydney winner for ArlingtonHis weanling full brother is sure to generate good interest and is the fourth foal of Lion Belle, who comes from the family of this season's Group II winner Silverstream.

Also showing promise is the Barry Lockwood trained three year-old Naked, who has been placed at six of his nine starts and was second at his most recent outing in the $75,000 Toowoomba Guineas.

After several years of breeding with Arlington, Bruce McHugh has decided to take a more proactive approach to enlisting potential partners in the up-and-coming stallion with this sale a part of that strategy.

"Arlington will also be auctioned on the day, however as it is my preference to maintain an ongoing involvement with his stallion career, I will in the intervening time be looking for interested parties to either stand Arlington elsewhere or, alternatively, keep him at Tamalee Farm if there are enough interested parties to make that a viable option," said Bruce McHugh.

"Producing sound horses with lovely temperaments that are improving with age and distance (the oldest are only 4YOs), and who have the potential to be lucrative Cups horses, Arlington is currently the sire of 19 individual winners of 34 races for earnings of nearly $1 million."

While the majority of broodmares are in foal to Arlington, there are four mares in foal to outside sires in Dawn Approach (IRE), Dream Ahead (USA) (2) and Teofilo (IRE).

The dam of brilliant G3 winner Spright will be offered for saleThe mare in foal to $6 million earner Happy Clapper's sire Teofilo is 11 year-old Dashoff, a highly commercial prospect as the dam of Group III placed Mine Two and brilliant sprinter Spright, a recent winner of the Group III ATC Star Kingdom Stakes at Rosehill.

Spright has plenty of more racing ahead of her and already boasts the impressive record of four wins, three of them in stakes races, and over $500,000 in prizemoney.

The three other mares in foal to Dream Ahead and Dawn Approach are Tennessee Moonlite (Redoute's Choice), Tennessee Move (Arlington) and Tennessee Mischief (Desert Prince), all three from the famed Black Type 'Tennessee' family that has produced countless stakes-winners such as Group I stars Aloha and Malaguerra as well as this season's Group II winning juvenile Seabrook.

The sale will be held at Tamalee Farm from 11am on Sunday May 6 and for more information contact Stud Manager Ken Blanch on 0407 936 978 and click for more details.
