Fighting Sun Filly Impresses at Kembla

Mark Smith - Sunday April 8

Fourth behind Gongs when on debut at Canterbury back on November 22, Miss Scorcher came out of a 20-week hibernation to break her maiden over 1000 metres at Kembla Grange on Saturday and credit her sire Fighting Sun with his fourth winner in Australia and his fifth overall.

Fired out of the barriers by Jeff Penza, the Graeme Murray-trained filly held the lead from her inside barrier and was never troubled in the straight to win by three and a quarter lengths over the short-priced favourite Coterie (Your Song) with Light Charge (Charge Forward) one and a half lengths back in third.

A $78,000 purchase by Murray Livestock / DJI Bloodstock from the Bucklee Farm draft from session two at the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, Miss Scorcher (pictured as a yearling ) is the second foal of the twice winning Exceed And Excel mare Special Mention who is a great-granddaughter of the wonderful sprinter Special.

Fighting Sun covered 144 mares at Sun Stud last spring at a fee of $13,750.
