$1.7million Snitzel Colt Sets the Pace

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 6

The Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale kicked off on Sunday with the first million dollar horse to be sold this year coming early as Lot 16, a Snitzel colt from La Mexicana that made $1.7million for Segenhoe Stud on behalf of B2B Thoroughbreds.

$1.7million Snitzel colt from La Mexicana

The first foal of Group III winning I Am Invincible mare La Mexicana, he was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership / Tony Fung Colts / Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing.

Segenhoe Stud’s Peter O’Brien was thrilled with the result and for the colt’s breeders the Surace family of B2B Thoroughbreds, who moved their mares from the Southern Highlands to the Hunter Valley to be based at Segenhoe last year.

“We call him the Adonis, he was just always a super colt from the start, so it's great for the Suraces , they put a lot of money in and it's good to see them get money back,” he said.

“We’re delighted James Harron got him and I believe he may be going to Gai Waterhouse, so everyone's over the moon.”

James Harron confirmed that was the case.

“He was one of the colts of the sale and the TFI crew and Adrian and Gai loved him as well, so it’s brilliant to get him,” said James Harron.

“He’s a very forward horse, comes off one of the best nurseries in Segenhoe and he just paraded like a really good forward, willing horse all week, which really drew us all in.

“His dam was really talented. I think she was probably even better than the record suggests. She was a really good mare and Snitzel needs no introduction, He just keeps doing it and doing it and doing it.

“He's breaking all the records, and we just have to look at the Golden Slipper Slipper a couple of weeks ago, and he's done it again (Marhoona).

“So, very excited to get him.”

La Mexicana has done an amazing job for B2B Thoroughbreds - image Grant Courtney

Bought from Magic Millions in 2019 as a yearling by Belmont Bloodstock for $320,000, La Mexicana was raced by B2B Thoroughbreds and proved a fast and consistent performer winning six races and over $550,000 with a Group III MRC Kevin Hayes Stakes victory her best win.

She has smashed it out of the park with her first foal and there is more to come.

La Mexicana had another filly last year before going back to Snitzel again.

Footnote: B2B Thoroughbreds didn’t take long to reinvest at this sale purchasing a Snitzel filly from Group III winner Madam Legend for $400,000 from Cressfield.
