The Yulong broodmare band contains a bewildering array of exceptional mares but on the score of proven producers, Baggy Green is up there on her own and made it five winners from five to race at Pakenham on Thursday evening.
Baggy Green was bought for $1.75million by Yulong from the Valachi Downs Dispersal on Gavelhouse in New Zealand in 2022, not long after they purchased her four time Group I winning daughter Tofane at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale for $3.1million .
Yulong also purchased a yearling full sister to Tofane for $460,000 at the same Valachi Downs Dispersal and the now four year-old Ocean Park mare called First Appearance opened her account with a narrow victory in the 2000m maiden at Pakenham at her sixth race start.
She is never going to eclipse her full sister, but First Appearance will now head to stud a winner!
She is trained by Glen Thomson, who trained previously in partnership with the late Mike Moroney, who also prepared Tofane to win four G1 races and $3.6million with her highlight wins coming in the ATC All Aged Stakes, BRC Stradbroke Handicap, MRC CF Orr Stakes and Tatts Tiara.
Yulong will offer a yearling colt by Ocean Park from Baggy Green at Inglis Easter as Lot 290.
He is a full brother to Tofane and a half-brother to Group I winner No Compromise and stakes-winners Bradman and Benaud.
Baggy Green produced a filly last spring for Yulong by Written Tycoon and was then covered by Alabama Express.
