The Male Version of Outback Barbie – Ken Sells for $575,000

Tara Madgwick - Friday January 10

Eureka Stud’s Spirit of Boom is the leading two year-old sire in the country right now by winners and earnings with four runners in this Saturday’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic including the top fancy La Bella Boom and he had a big result at Magic Millions on Friday when the full brother to former star Queensland mare Outback Barbie sold for $575,000.

$575,000 Spirit of Boom colt from Pure Purrfection

Offered by Eureka Stud, the colt is from stakes-winner Pure Purrfection and is a full brother to not only $1.5million earning stakes-winner Outback Barbie, but also stakes-winner Barbie’s Sister with the family also featuring this season’s juvenile stakes-winner Hi Barbie, who runs in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

All of the Barbie‘s have been trained by Queensland’s champion trainer Tony Gollan as was his sire Spirit of Boom and Gollan will also be preparing this colt, who was knocked  down to Gollan Racing/John Foote Bloodstock (FBAA)/Blacksoil Racing.

“I know a bit about the family, obviously. Trained the father and I actually bought with the late Colin McAlpine the mother,” said Tony Gollan.

“I’ve trained near enough to everything out of her. Love the colt. He’s the nicest type I’ve seen the mare throw and probably the most like Outback Barbie herself but the male version.

“I think he looks like an early type. He’s not too heavy so we don’t have to worry about gelding him. He’s a lovely, push button, that we can get moving nice and early.

“He’s got the temperament and everything you want in a young colt.”

At $575,000, the colt equalled the previous highest price for a Spirit of Boom yearling sold at auction and he is the last foal of Pure Purrfection, who passed away last year.

Spirit of Boom tops the 2YO Sires List!
