Pedigree Updates Add to NZB Ready to Run Sale’s Appeal

Media Release - Monday November 18

The catalogue for NZB’s 2024 Ready to Run Sale at Karaka was already loaded with quality, but a number of big-race performances by siblings and close relatives this spring have added even more points of major interest.

Three of the two-year-olds going through the Karaka sale ring this week have had siblings perform at Group One level since the catalogue went to print.

G1 placed Powers of Opal has a full sister in the sale.

  • Lot 10 is a full-sister to Domain Ace (NZ) (Swiss Ace), who placed in the Group One New Zealand 2000 Guineas (1600m).
  • Lot 202 is a full-sister to Powers Of Opal (NZ) (Ocean Park), who was runner-up in the Group One VRC Oaks (2500m) and the Group Two Wakeful Stakes (2000m). She also finished fourth in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m).
  • Lot 332 is a half-brother to Feroce (NZ) (Super Seth), who finished second in the Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

But the notable siblings are not limited to that trio. Others who have had brothers or sisters perform in major races in recent weeks include:

  • Lot 372, whose full-brother Arkansaw Kid (Harry Angel) has been a superb performer in Melbourne’s sprint ranks this spring. Since the catalogue went to print, he has won the Group Two Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m), along with second placings in the Group Two Gilgai Stakes (1200m) and Listed Chautauqua Stakes (1200m).
  • Lot 369, who is a full-brother to the Group Two Moonee Valley Fillies’ Classic (1600m) winner Double Market (Castelvecchio).

Captured by Love has a close relation in the sale.

The Te Akau Racing filly has now had 10 starts for five wins and five placings, earning over $700,000 in stakes with the promise of much more to come. While the Guineas was the first black-type win of her three-year-old season, Captured By Love has also placed in the Group Two Hawke’s Bay Guineas (1400m), Group Two Sarten Memorial (1400m) and Group Three Gold Trail Stakes (1200m) since the catalogue went to print.
  • Lot 79 is a close relation of Gringotts (NZ) (Per Incanto), who now boasts eight wins, seven placings and A$2.4m in stakes from a 16-race career. Since the catalogue went to print, he has won the A$3m Listed The Big Dance (1600m) and placed in the A$1.5m Alan Brown Stakes (1400m) and the Group Three Bill Ritchie Handicap (1400m). Lot 79 is also a full-brother to the talented three-year-old Vegas Queen (NZ) (Proisir), who recently ran fourth in the Group Three Northland Breeders’ Stakes (1200m).
  • Lot 89 is a close relative of Mehzebeen (NZ) (Almanzor), who was one of the stars of the recent New Zealand Cup Carnival in Christchurch with her victories in the Group Three New Zealand Cup (3200m) and the Listed Metropolitan Trophy (2600m). Lot 89’s half-brother (Mister) Wolfgang (NZ) (Puccini), meanwhile, has recently finished second in the Group Three Balmerino Stakes (2000m) and fourth in the Group Three Geelong Cup (2400m).
  • Lot 169 is closely related to Firm Agreement (Yes Yes Yes), who was a third placegetter in the Group One Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick and the Group Three Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill. Firm Agreement has had just four starts for a win and three placings.
  • Lot 195 is closely related to Joliestar (Zoustar), who has won the Group Three Show County Quality (1200m) and placed in the Group Two Sheraco Stakes (1200m) since the catalogue went to print. She also ran an unlucky seventh in the A$20m The Everest (1200m) and seventh in the A$10m Golden Eagle (1500m). Lot 195 is also a close relative of Airman (I Am Invincible), who recently won the Group Two Premiere Stakes (1200m), while another close relation Miss Aria (Zoustar) placed in the Group Two Rose Of Kingston Stakes (1400m) and Group Two Tristarc Stakes (1400m).
  • Lot 255 is by first-season Cambridge Stud sire Hello Youmzain, who has already got on the board with a first Australasian winner at Bendigo earlier this month. Lot 255 is closely related to Amelita (Zousain), who won the Group Three Red Roses Stakes (1100m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington. Lot 367 also comes from this family.
  • Lot 289 is a close relation to Olentia (Zoustar), who has recently won the Group Three Nivison Stakes (1200m), placed in the Group Two Hot Danish Stakes (1400m) and finished fourth in the A$2m Group Two The Invitation (1400m).

  • Lot 312 is closely related to reigning Australian Horse of the Year Pride Of Jenni (Pride Of Dubai), who won this spring’s Group Two Feehan Stakes (1600m) and placed in the Group One King Charles III Stakes (1600m) and Group One Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m).
