She's a Winner - Plenty Of Ammo Captures G2 Crystal Mile

Mark Smith - Saturday October 26

After snapping a 4-race winning streak at her most recent start in the Paris Lane Stakes, the lightly raced 6-year-old Rebel Raider mare Plenty Of Ammo was not about to be denied in Saturday’s Group II Schweppes Crystal Mile (1600m) at Moonee Valley.

Ridden by Jordan Childs for Symon Wilde, Plenty Of Ammo made light of her first start at the Valley with a fast-finishing three-quarters-of-a-length win over the Shamardal gelding Royal Champion (IRE), with the Siyouni (FR) gelding Nugget (GB) a neck back in third.

“She's been a bit of a handful, but she is a lovely homebred mare,”  Symon Wilde’s father Bill Wilde said.

“We've had a few issues with her, she's been temperamental, but today she performed beautifully and I just love the way that she paraded beautifully. She’s got a few dapples on her; she behaved herself, and that was the result we had hoped for and expected. Onwards and upwards with her.”

Bred by Cherokee Rose Stud, Plenty Of Ammo advances her record to five wins and a second from seven starts with earnings of $372,350.

The daughter of Rebel Raider is the best of two winners from as many to race for the

Floral Pegasus mare Millie's Reef, a 5-start maiden.

A descendant of the triple Group 1 winner My Blue Denim, Millie's Reef foaled a filly by Dirty Work on September 30.

Plenty Of Ammo is the eighth stakes winner for the VRC Derby and SAJC South Australian Derby winner Rebel Raider, who died in 2019 following a heart attack.
