Outstanding Conditions on Day One of Breeze Ups

Media Release - Monday October 21

Day One of NZB’s 2024 Ready to Run Sale Breeze Ups kicked off on Monday at Te Rapa Racecourse with perfect weather and track conditions for the two-year-olds.

169 expertly prepared two-year-olds breezed down the straight with perfect Good 4 rated footing and fine weather conditions throughout the entire day.

An average time of 10.69 was reached across the 96 heats, a credit to the Te Rapa track and how it held up throughout the day.

Lot 174 breezed up in a eye catching 9.97 for Kiltannon Stables.

Cambridge preparer and trainer Mark Forbes of Kiltannon Stables commented on the first day of Breeze Ups after his I am Invincible colt (Lot 174) galloped in an eye catching 9.97.

“Today went super. The track ran fairly all day, and it was nice to see good, even times throughout the day, with lovely horses presented.”

Chad Ormsby of Riverrock Farm breezed up 12 lots and was pleased with how the day went.

Lot 119 was the second quickest of the day on account of Riverrock Farm.

“We are very happy with how they have all gone today. Time is not a factor for us, but our Zousain filly (Lot 119 who breezed up in 10.13) was brilliant.”

“They all handled themselves as best they could on such a big occasion, and we are looking forward to offering them in the coming weeks at Karaka.”

NZB’s Bloodstock Sales Manager Kane Jones commented on the day’s proceedings.

“The track was absolutely beautiful today and that was reflected in some very quick and consistent times. We expect much of the same tomorrow.”

“It was pleasing to see a number of agents and buyers on the ground, with many commenting on the high quality of horses on offer.”

The Breeze Ups continue on Tuesday at Te Rapa Racecourse, with Day Two commencing at 10am, with all prospective buyers welcome.

NZB offers extended Breeze Up clips, including additional footage near the 600-metre mark to capture horses before they fully extend into their gallop. As per usual, horses will also have the last 200 meters of their work individually timed.

Providing even more information for buyers, NZB will also be filming the mounting yard at Te Rapa, with all two-year-olds being paraded prior to their Breeze Up.

The full Breeze Up clips and parade footage will be made available for viewing on NZB’s website by Friday 25 October, as well as being streamed on Trackside in New Zealand, plus Racing.com Australia.
