First Stakes-Winner for Hello Youmzain

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 13

Cambridge Stud shuttler Hello Youmzain (Fr) has broken the ice with his first stakes-winner and it’s a good one with quality colt Misunderstood scoring a commanding win in the Group III Prix des Chenes (1600m) at Longchamp overnight.

Trained by Mario Baratti and ridden by Alexis Pouchin, Misunderstood was having just his second start after making a winning debut at Deauville back in July.

He took the lead early and ran his rivals into the ground, bolting clear to win by four and a half lengths.

“He has a tendency to be keen and we don't have much choice but to let him bowl along in front at a good pace,” Mario Baratti said.

“This is also why he carries a hood. He kept finding and drew away nicely, proving that he is probably a very good horse. Alexis (Pouchin) has suggested running him over seven furlongs. The (G1 Prix Jean-Luc) Lagardere is a possibility, but I first want to discuss it with the owners.

“Personally, I would like to wait for next year as he gives a lot in his races and I don't want to give him one race too many [this year].”

Misunderstood was passed in at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and then bought back on a vendor bid of 95,000 guineas at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale and runs for a partnership that includes Haras D'Etreham, who stand Hello Youmzain in France.

He is a half-brother to Group II winner Waldbiene and stakes-winner Urwald and is the third stakes-winner among seven winners from top producing Group II placed mare Waldjagd, a half-sister to Group I German Derby winner Waldpark from a family packed with Group I winners.

A dual Group I winning sprinter by Kodiac, Hello Youmzain has sired nine first crop winners in the Northern Hemisphere that include another stakes horse in Electrolyte.

Hello Youmzain (Fr) is back in New Zealand this spring.

He will have his first NZ bred runners this season and is back at Cambridge Stud at a fee of $35,000.
