Widden Stud Primed for Inglis Classic Week

Widden Stud is the biggest vendor at this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and this large and diverse draft of 45 have all their images and video available for those looking to make some assessment before inspections start at Riverside Stables this week and we’ve gone looking for some interesting contenders.

Widden will offer the progeny of 22 different stallions including their promising first season sire Portland Sky, a Group I winning sprinter by Deep Field that has six yearlings in the draft including a couple below that make instant appeal.

Lot 88 Colt Portland Sky x Cailini, by Smart Missile

Second foal of Sydney metro placed winning daughter of South American Group III winner Estatuilla, a half-sister to Champion Argentinean Sprinter Estambul. Dam has been back to Portland Sky in both following seasons producing another colt and back in foal again which speaks volumes about the regard for this colt.

Second foal of Kiwi Group III winning sprinter of six races in Power O’Hata from the family of Group I winner Our Winged Foot.

 

Another of the Widden sires Written By added a new stakes-winner to his tally at Rosehill on Saturday with speedy two year-old filly The Playwright winning the Group III ATC Widden Stakes and he has three in draft including the filly below.

Lot 577 Filly Written By x Refuge Bay, by Savabeel

Half-sister to Group III placed Bay Thirteen and is fourth foal of a three time winner by champion sire Savabeel that has had two winners already and traces back to a solid Black Type family featuring Group I winner and proven Group producer Nechita.

 

With his oldest progeny just three year-olds, Zousain has a pair of Group winning fillies this season in Drifting and Amelita and has four in the draft including the filly below.

Half-sister to stakes-winner The Bopper, a winner of over $545,000 and is fifth foal of her dam, whose previous four foals all raced for two winners and one placed. Late October foal that will just keep improving.

 

A Zousain filly that was bought out of this draft last year for $160,000, the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Bellazaine, has been burning up the track in recent Sydney trials as she looks to resume from a break after her close seventh in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes on debut last spring.

Her half-sister by Supido from Benella will be offered as Lot 63 and is also a full sibling to a pair of multiple country winners with this female family producing last week’s Group III MRC Blue Diamond Preview winner My Gladiola.

 

A Champion 3YO Colt and now a Group I sire Trapeze Artist has eight in the draft and they include a filly that has high residual value and would be one of the best bred fillies in the sale.

Full sister to Group III winner and multiple Group II placed Facile, a winner of over $467,000 that sold for $700,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale last year as a broodmare prospect. This filly is the fourth foal from stakes-winner I Like It Easy, a daughter of stakes-winner Gai’s Choice from the family of Group and stakes-winners Juan Diva, Peron, Atmospherical and new stakes-winner Philosopher.
