Proven Thoroughbreds bid farewell to their former stakes-winning mare Candika earlier this week after she was retired due to a knee injury, but will take solace from an impressive first up win at Warwick Farm on Australia Day for lightly raced Hinchinbrook filly Brook Magic.

Brook Magic as a yearlingThe Joe Pride trained three year-old impressed in two recent trials and was sent out a short priced favourite for the Benchmark 77 sprint over 1000 metres.

She led throughout to score a dominant length and three-quarter length win, her third from seven starts with prizemoney now topping $113,000.

A $40,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Proven Thoroughbreds/ Joe Pride from the Fairview Farm draft, Brook Magic is the first winner for Magita, a metro winning Magic Albert mare from the family of Cox Plate hero Shamus Award.

Hinchinbrook has strong representation at Inglis Classic with 28 entries.
