Last Crop of Hinchinbrook Delivers $1.15 Million Colt

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 9

Yarraman Park have had an outstanding sale at Magic Millions, but it’s one tinged with a sense of what could have been given the hot demand for the last crop of yearlings by their much missed sire Hinchinbrook.

$1.15 Million Hinchinbrook colt sold by Yarraman ParkAt the time of his death in 2018, Hinchinbrook was just starting to get the serious commercial recognition he deserved and his final crop have been highly prized here at the Gold Coast.

Consigned by Yarraman Park, the colt from Harlem Heat took over as the top lot at the sale so far when fetching $1.15 million on Thursday afternoon to the bid of James Bester acting for Coolmore.

Bred by Yarraman Park, he is a three-quarter brother to stakes-winner Harlem River and is the ninth foal from Harlem Heat, who comes from the family of Everest winner Yes Yes Yes and Group I winning sprinter In Her Time.

“If you are looking for the best you need to look at a wide range of stallions,” said James Bester in his post sale comments.

“Hinchinbrook has an outstanding sprinter in Hong Kong in Beat the Clock and has had top class colts like Press Statement and Derryn, so we think he can get the right horse.

“He strolled along like a panther and was a must have colt. He was just an absolute star!

“Yes Yes Yes will head to Royal Ascot this year and In Her Time is an outstanding sprinter, so that’s got to bode well for this colt.”

The colt is the highest priced yearling by Hinchinbrook ever sold topping his previous best of $1million paid for a colt from Al’s Magic Miss in 2016.

Harlem Heat has a filly to follow by Astern and is in foal to I Am Invincible’s Group I winning son Hellbent.
