Outstanding sire Kingman produced a new juvenile stakes-winner overnight with promising filly January winning the Listed Churchill Stakes (7 ½ f) at Tipperary and interestingly she is from a daughter of Fastnet Rock.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, January swept clear of her rivals to win by four lengths at her fourth start following a win and two previous placings including a last start third in the Group II Curragh Airlie Stud Stakes.
A homebred for the Coolmore partners, January holds entries for several upcoming Group races.
“January was always going to be suited going up to this trip. They went a good pace and she will have learned a lot. She should be very comfortable going up to a mile,” said Aidan O'Brien.
The 85th stakes-winner for Kingman, January is the first winner for Fastnet Rock’s multiple Group I placed and Group II winner I Can Fly, a half-sister to stakes-winner Viscount Barfield from the family of Group I winner Landseer.
The Kingman x Fastnet Rock nick has produced seven winners from nine starters and January is the second stakes-winner bred this way joining Group III winner Age of Kings.
Kingman’s Group I winning son King Colorado stands his first season at Widden Victoria at a fee of $16,500.
