Spring Riches Await Wanaruah

Mark Smith - Saturday July 13

The promising 2-year-old Snitzel colt Wanaruah took his record to two for two when leading at every call in over 1400m at Randwick.

With Winona Costin replacing Adam Hyeronimus, who could not make the weight, Wanaruah strolled to the front from an outside barrier.

When challenged at the 300m, Wanaruah found his second wind and was going as strongly as anything on the line. The last start Canterbury winner Good Sort (Tassort) was two lengths back in second, with the Warwick Farm winner Waterville (Menari) back in third.

Wanaruah created a huge impression on debut with an effortless win over 1250m on a heavy track at Canterbury.

The Gait Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained colt will be eased with the early spring features in mind.

uo;He’s a fabulous colt, which we saw on debut,” Adrian Bott said.

“We just wanted to give him that extra run this campaign, test him over a bit further, get his rating up, and prepare him for bigger things in the spring.

“He’s always looked the type who would continue to furnish heading to his 3-year-old career. That is a lot of upsides and is better than winter form.”

Bred and part-owned by Rae-Louise and Padraig Kelly’s Fernrigg Farm, Wanaruah was passed in short of his $300,000 reserve at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

Fernrigg Farm purchased Mella Maria for $340,000 off Mill Park Stud at the 2019 National Broodmare Sale when carrying a Redoute’s Choice filly that was sold to Moody Racing / Tasman Bloodstock for $760,000 at the 2021 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Mella Maria has a weanling colt by Bivouac and was covered by Acrobat last spring.

While Snitzel will relinquish his Champion 2yo Sire title, Arrowfield Stud’s flagship stallion has separated himself from the field for juvenile stakes-winners with five.
