One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 12

Not many juveniles are sent out on debut over 1400m, but the Lindsay Park trainers knew exactly what they had on their hands with this talented son of Pierro and he trotted up by more than five lengths.

Dom was well fancied following some good jump out efforts and with a positive ride from Blake Shinn, he gave nothing else a chance. Travelling smoothly in front, Dom found another gear late to open up and win as he pleased with the Godolphin entry Toreador toiling into second place as best of the rest.

“1400  first up is not easy to do, but full credit to the Hayes boys, they really knew what they had,” Shinn said.

“He gave me a lovely ride and was very well educated. Once we established the front he backed off nicely and quickened really well. He’s got plenty of upside, a lovely style of horse with a good attitude and can make the transition to city class.”

Dom was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Dom was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase f or Lindsay Park Racing from Edinburgh Park and is the first winner for Vivi Valentina, a winning Exceed and Excel daughter of stakes-winner Our Golden Dream and half-sister to the dam of Group II winner Need I Say More.

Dom is the 114th Australian winner of the season for Pierro and is bred on the same cross as his Group III winning filly this season Queen of Dragons, who is also from a daughter of Exceed and Excel.

Pierro stands at Coolmore at a fee of $55,000.
