Hot Lots Day Two of the Magic Millions

Mark Smith - Wednesday January 10

Well, we missed the mark with a son of Snitzel out of the unraced War Emblem mare Madame Andree, that made $900,000 to the bid of James Harron Bloodstock to be the long-term clubhouse leader on the opening day of the Magic Millions Yearling sale, but had redemption late in the day when Element Hill's Fastnet Rock colt out of Risk Aversion made an even $1 million to the bid of Coolmore Stud.

It's a family Coolmore knows well. A stakes-winning daughter of Encosta de Lago, Risk Aversion is a daughter of Coolmore's blue-hen Subterfuge (Machiavellian).

The competition on the first season stallions was a feature of the day. There was plenty to enthuse about the likes of Dissident, Deep Field and Rubick in particular.

But we will be putting our faith in the tried and true stallions again on Thursday with Snitzel, I Am Invincible, Redoute's Choice, Fastnet Rock and Savabeel all expected to make the leaderboard.

Perhaps the most interesting lot of the day is Arrowfield Stud's filly by Japan's leading first-crop sire Lord Kanaloa.
