Back in 2018, Fastnet Rock colt Merchant Navy was the toast of Royal Ascot when he beat some of Europe’s best sprinters to win the Group I Diamond Jubilee Stakes (6f) and six years on he now calls Kooringal Stud home and a hot winning run since the start of June will no doubt prick the ears of all mare owners in the Wagga district.
Since the start of June, Merchant Navy has reeled off 12 winners including lightly raced mare Arqana, who won at Sandown last Saturday for the Anthony and Sam Freedman stable.
The Ciaron Maher trained gelding Naval Commission has also been busy winning his past three starts including victories at Randwick and Warwick Farm.
On the leading third season sires list by winners, Merchant Navy is running third behind Russian Revolution and Hellbent, who both stand in the Hunter Valley at fees of $66,000 and $38,500.
A quality individual with an elite pedigree, Merchant Navy is priced at $13,200 representing proven value for country breeders looking to produce that all important winner that won’t break the bank.
