Newgate Sires Fire Up at Sha Tin

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 16

A favourite with Hong Kong trainers, Capitalist posted a winning double at Sha Tin on Saturday and not to be outdone Russian Revolution also featured with a smart winner of his own.

Capital Delight was a smart two year-old in Brisbane for the Tony Gollan stable winning his first three starts as Capital Tower and has proven a success in Hong Kong for Caspar Fownes.

The four year-old was rewarded for his consistency in recent starts when powering home on the all weather track to win the Class 3 sprint over 1200m taking his record to six wins from 19 starts.

A $600,000 Magic Millions purchase from Vinery Stud for John Foote Bloodstock, Capital Delight was bred by John Stuart Investments and is the first winner for well related Stratum mare Eiffel Tower, who comes from the Monsoon Wedding branch of the Shantha’s Choice family.

Her yearling colt by Russian Revolution made $300,000 at Magic Millions this year when bought by Snowden Racing and she has a filly to follow by Russian Revolution and is back in foal to him again.

Making it a race to race double for Capitalist was the Ricky Yiu trained four year-old Sunlight Power, who was tenacious at the finish in outgunning the favourite to win the Class 3 over 1400m by three-quarters of a length.

Sunlight Power has hit top form this year and has now won three of his past five starts.

A $320,000 NZB Ready to Run purchase from Kilgravin Lodge for Mr R Yiu / Mr D Hawthorne, he was sourced originally from Inglis Easter for $150,000 from the Lime Country Thoroughbreds draft.

He is the best of three winners from imported Dubawi mare Emirates Comfort (IRE), a placed half-sister to Group II winner Free Port Lux from Group I winner Royal Highness.

Capitalist has sired 10 winners in Hong Kong from 22 runners.

Talented Russian Revolution three year-old Glory Elite bolted in at Sha Tin last month to break his maiden and was super impressive again as a short priced favourite winning the Class 4 over 1200m by two and a half lengths.

Glory Elite was purchased by his trainer Jimmy Ting for $200,000 from the Glenn Haven Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale and was sourced originally from Inglis Classic for $150,000 from the Sledmere Stud draft.

Glory Elite is the first Hong Kong winner for Russian Revolution and is the best of two winners from The King’s Widow, a winning All Too Hard daughter of stakes-winner Dowager Queen.
