Broadsiding Devastating in Sires' Produce

Mark Smith - Saturday June 1

Godolphin's 2-year-old Too Darn Hot (GB) colt Broadsiding showed why he is rated among the most exciting young horses in the nation with a spectacular win in the Aquis Stallions Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Could Broadsiding be the new Anamoe (Racing Queensland/Michael McInally)

From an outside barrier, Jamie Kah dragged the Group 1 ATC Champagne Stakes hero back to the tail of the field and passed just two of the 18 runners on straightening. Eased out to the centre of the track, the son of Too Darn Hot (GB) picked off runner after runner to win under a hand ride by a length from the Zousain colt Zouna, with a half-neck back to the Too Darn Hot (GB) gelding Superalloy, a first-season sire trifecta.

With his third consecutive win, Broadsiding advances his record to three wins and two thirds from six starts, with earnings of $1,344,675.

Winning trainer James Cummings said the Group 1 JJ Atkins stakes is the next target, where success may earn Broadsiding a Champion 2-Year-Old title.

"There was a bit of traffic in the early and middle stages. Turning for home, a lot was going on," Cummings said.

"I guess the horse's experience shone through, but Jame Kah also kept a very calm demeanour about herself.

"What a cool ride that was. Broadsiding has a devastating turn-of-foot.

"He's a class animal. Considering the difficulties he had to overcome, it was an outstanding effort to win.

"He’s a very good two-year-old and that was a good set up for the JJ Atkins in two weeks. The horse is class and we’re lucky to have him.

“He’s a credit to the international team given that he is by Too Darn Hot and he can come here and be such an incredible two-year-old this season in Australia.”

Jamie Kah said Broadsiding was not entitled to win.

“It was a bit yucky. A lot was going on and this this horse was just all class. He wasn’t entitled to do what he did,” Kah said.

“There was a bit of interference going on in front of us, so I had to drop back. He was just fantastic.

“When I rode him a few starts back I though he was classy. He’s a group one winner, came back and won the Champagne.

“Even good horses shouldn’t win like that because he had no favours at all.”

“I love the way he relaxed. There was a lot going on and he didn’t care. He just came back to me. He was like riding a pony out here today. He was great.”

Broadsiding's dam Speedway had only two colt foals before dying in 2022.

A talented daughter of Street Cry (IRE), Speedway made 11 starts for three Godolphin trainers, John O'Shea, Darren Beadman and James Cummings. She won at Wyong and Newcastle and placed a further three times.

The Godolphin homebred comes from a stakes-laden family dating back to the 1982 AJC Doncaster Handicap, All Aged Stakes, and ARC Railway Handicap winner (My) Gold Hope (John's Hope).

The champion first season sire elect, Too Darn Hot (GB) has enjoyed  a memorable couple of weeks worldwide, with the filly Darnation winning the Group II German One Thousand Guineas on the same day that Fallen Angel won the Group 1 Irish One Thousand Guineas.
