Winners Continue To Flow for Tassort

Mark Smith - Sunday May 26

It was another excellent weekend for exciting first-season sire Tassort, with Purosangue making a winning debut at Toowoomba on Saturday night and Zampano keeping his record at a perfect two for two at Gunnedah on Sunday.

It was no secret that the Lindsay Hatch-trained gelding possessed ability and was an odds-on favourite in the Platinum Glass & Security Mdn Hcp (870m).

Blessed with superior natural speed, Purosangue cut out the early running. Under a hand-ride from Jake Molloy, Purosangue savaged the line to defeat the Spirit Of Boom filly Croatian Queen by four and a half lengths, with the Under The Louvre filly Small Doses a further two and a half lengths back in third.

Bred and part-owned by Ian Heilig, Purosangue is the second foal and second winner for the talented California Dane mare My Little Flicka, a 9-time winner.

Moroney Bloodstock and Catheryne Bruggeman shelled out $110,000 for a Too Darn Hot (GB) colt from My Little Flicka at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

She has a Capitalist weanling colt and was bred back to Tassort.

The 2-year-old Tassort gelding Zampano made a considerable impression on debut at Tamworth and was odds-on to remain unbeaten in the Verdict Hcp (1000m) at Gunnedah.

Ridden by Ashley Morgan for Melissa Dennett, Zampano pushed through to lead from his inside barrier. Drifting out to the middle of the course, he was made to work for his half-length win over the Capitalist filly Rivana, who was in receipt of 5kgs.

“He got a little lost at the 300m. We galloped him through the week, and he showed that,” Dennett said.

”He is still green and was exposed a long way from home. He wanted to get in on that inside horse, but he knuckled down for the last 50m when Ash drove him to the line.

“He will go to the paddock for the winter and we will bring him back in the spring and reassess where he is at. Hopefully, he will strengthen up; he is still immature to look at.

Bred and part-owned by Geoff Simpson, Zampano is the fourth winner from as many to race for the 5-time winning Strada mare Gelsomina from the family of Group 1 VATC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Road To Success.

Gelsomina foaled a Cosmic Force filly in September.

Tassort also sired a debut winner at Murwillumbah on Friday in Shamadan, so with eight winners to his credit now trails Too Darn Hot (GB) by one heading to the back end of the season. The son of Brazen Beau is standing the forthcoming season at Newgate Farm for $38,500.
