Fifth
in the Group I New Zealand 2,000 Guineas, Dream Ahead (USA) colt Sensei showed
he was on track for more success with an easy win at Wingatui in New Zealand on
Boxing Day.
The Michael and Matthew Pitman-trained three-year-old over-raced early in the
1200 metre sprint before settling and the handsome colt then knuckled down to
his task in the straight.
Sensei powered clear to win by two lengths taking his overall record to four
wins and five placings from 11 starts
A $60,000 Inglis Easter purchase for his trainer from the Emirates Park draft,
Sensei runs for a big group of owners and has already been stakes-placed
previously with bigger goals now in store.
Sensei will head north for either the Group I Grant Plumbing Levin Classic
(1600m) on January 13 or the Group I JR & N Berkett Telegraph (1200m) a
week later.
Bred by Emirates Park, Sensei is a half-brother to Group II BRC Queensland
Guineas winner Rothesay and is one of five winners Schiaprelli, a half-sister
to stakes-winners Causeway Lass and Astute Angel from triple Group I winner
Canny Lass.
The family has enjoyed prolific success at the highest level and also features
Golden Slipper winners Sepoy and Canny Lad, as well as Group I fillies Guelph,
Camarilla and Camarena.
Schiaparelli has a yearling filly by Fastnet Rock and produced a colt foal by
Artie Schiller (USA) in September.
Sensei looms as a future stakes-winner for Aquis Farm's Dream Ahead, who has
entries in upcoming sales with six for Magic Millions, 13 for Inglis Classic
and two for Inglis Premier.
