Star Colt for $3.4 Million Mare

Tara Madgwick - Monday December 11
The 2017 foaling season for commercial thoroughbreds is fast coming to an end and one of the last born colts has stallion of the future written all over him.

When Listen Here, the dam of Shooting to Win and Deep Field, was offered at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale it provided investors a very rare opportunity to secure a genuine blue hen producer.

Competition was fierce for the stakes-winning daughter of Elusive Quality (USA) with China Horse Club/ Bruce Perry Bloodstock paying $3.4 million for the now 13 year-old mare in foal to Medaglia D'Oro (USA).

She produced a colt for her new owners, China Horse Club and Cressfield, last spring that has been entered for the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and was subsequently covered by reigning champion sire Snitzel after missing to his sire Redoute's Choice.

On November 29, Listen Here produced her sixth living foal, this handsome chestnut colt that has greatly pleased the team at Cressfield.

"He was 17 days overdue, but well worth the wait!" said Cressfield Operations Manager Liesl Baumann.

"He is a good size colt, with the quality head of his dam, good nostril, girth and length of rein. I am confident he will fill out to be an impressive individual."

Impressive individuals are what Listen Here does best!

Her first two foals are Group II winning record breaker Deep Field and his full brother Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting to Win, while her current two year-old, a filly by Zoustar, sold for $1million at Inglis Easter earlier this year.

Last week we ran a story featuring the highly anticipated sale ring debut in 2018 of the offspring of Deep Field and Shooting to Win, who have big numbers entered for all of the upcoming major yearling sales. Read it here.

Deep Field filly from ShoboardDeep Field is the most represented sire at the Magic Millions and Cressfield will present two of his yearlings in their draft including this stunning filly from stakes-winning Show a Heart mare Shoboard.

To be offered as Lot 305, she comes from the family of Group I winner Star Satire, who has been a great producer for Cressfield as the dam of brilliant Group II winning filly Satin Shoes, who is now a successful broodmare herself as the dam of this season's Listed ATC Gimcrack stakes winner Satin Slipper.
