Justify Filly Justaboom Targets Black Type

Mark Smith - Saturday February 3

Continuing her upward trajectory, the progressive 3-year-old Justify (USA) filly Justaboom will chase black-type following a tough win over 1800m at Caulfield on Saturday.

Ridden by Jamie Mott for Robbie Griffiths and Mathew de Kock, Justaboom tracked the frantic early speed set by Yosemite Falls and was strong to the line in defeating the Vancouver gelding Our Couver by a length with Dundeel gelding Dunbelievin' back in third.

Justaboom debuted at Sandown in November with a third, followed by a fast-finishing second over a mile at Cranbourne a fortnight later.

The strapping chestnut filly broke her maiden at her previous start with a barnstorming win over a mile at Pakenham.

t;We have a very high opinion of this filly, and Justify is turning out to be a fantastic stallion," Mathew de Kock said.

"A big thank you to Rob McClure, who bred the filly. Most of the crew are back home (South Africa), where it is the early hours of the morning, so I doubt they will be awake, but they will wake to great pleasure watching this.

"We think she is a black-type filly for sure. We just wanted to see her get through today's race. I think we can map out a nice black-type program from here."

Part-owned by Mike De Kock, Justaboom was a $150,000 buy for Griffiths DeKock Racing / MDK International / Peter Ford Thoroughbreds (FBAA) / Vermaak Equine from the Coolmore Stud draft at the 2022 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Bred by Morning Rise Stud, Justaboom is the second winner from three to race for the imported dual Group 1 winner Kononkop (ARG), the champion 2yo filly in Argentina in 2016-17.

Kononkop (ARG) has a 2-year-old colt by I Am Invincible. After foaling a Home Affairs colt in August, she revisited the dual Group 1 winning son of I Am Invincible.
