Raised
and sold by Newgate Farm, well bred filly Ocean Jewel became the first
stakes-winner for her Cox Plate winning sire Ocean Park when taking out the
Listed WATC Placid Ark Stakes in Perth on Saturday.
The Simon Miller trained three year-old won three of her first four starts and
was not beaten far in two subsequent starts in Listed races.
Sent out favourite for this 1200 metre sprint, she powered to the line to win
by half a length and has now won four of seven starts earning $184,400 in prizemoney.
An $80,000 Inglis Australian Weanling Sale purchase from the Newgate Farm draft
for Aquanita Racing, Ocean Jewel was bred by Henry Field and partners and is
the best of three winners from Group III placed Danehill (USA) mare Markisa.
A royally bred mare, Markisa a half-sister to Group I winner Shower of Roses
from Group I winner Marquise, a daughter of legendary blue hen Eight Carat
(GB), the dam of champion racehorse Octagonal and three other Group I winners
as well as Marquise.
Ocean Jewel is the first stakes-winner for Waikato Stud's Ocean Park, whose oldest
progeny are three year-olds.
