It was hard not to be impressed with Wootton Bassett (GB) at the Coolmore stallion parades last year and his dark and dashing good looks have been stamped indelibly across his progeny with 35 of his yearlings to be offered at Magic Millions next week including some of the highlight horses of the sale.
Wootton Bassett emerged as a serious Group I sire from humble beginnings in France with the progeny from his early years at stud conceived at very modest fees before his acquisition by Coolmore in 2020.
It’s been onwards and upwards for Wootton Bassett, who sired 12 stakes-winners last year highlighted by three Group I winners- a pair of two year-old colts in Bucanero Fuerte and Unquestionable, plus outstanding three year-old colt King of Steel, who was also second in the Epsom Derby. His stakes-winners range in distance from 1000m up to 2400m showing the sort of versatility that gives yearling buyers many options for the future.
Standing at a fee of €200,000 in 2024, Wootton Bassett runs at nearly 9% SW to runner from his European crops to date and that’s before his better bred horses since his relocation to Coolmore headquarters in Ireland have even hit the track.
