Golden Slipper winner Fireburn has run her last race and is heading to Japan.
Her owners Laurel Oak Bloodstock announced on Thursday that she will be joining an elite band of broodmares in Japan.
Bred by Laurel Oak in partnership, Fireburn captured the imagination as a two-year-old when trained by Gary Portelli to win the Group 1 Golden Slipper, then backing it up at her next start to capture the Group 1 Sires Produce Stakes.
She just missed the autumn triple crown for juveniles when a neck second to She’s Extreme in the Champagne Stakes.
As a three-year-old she won the Group 2 The Roses (2200m), and creditably finished third in the Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and fourth in the Australian Oaks (2400m).
By Rebel Dane from the So You Think mare Mull Over, she was one of just 30 second year foals for her sire who’s career was turbo charged by his Slipper winning daughter, quickly relocating to Widden Stud and serving a book of well over 100 mares last year.
She retires having won six of her 21 starts and $4.2million.
