Progressive Godolphin galloper Interlocuter sent punters home on a winning note at Randwick on Saturday.

Interlocuter started a $1.80 favourite after opening $2.30 when betting commenced on the AW Edwards Handicap (1800m) on Wednesday.

Despite having never been faced with a rain-affected track, Interlocuter won the contest with consummate ease for Tye Angland, emerging from a midfield position to score by three-quarters of a length.

Black On Gold ($7.50) ran second for Chris Waller while the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Dark Eyes ($15) finished a further two lengths away in third.

Since arriving on Australian shores almost 12 months ago, the French import has won four of his six starts and finished runner-up at his other two, which included a loss on protest first-up at Rosehill last month.

Trainer James Cummings has adopted a patient approach with Interlocuter and the five-year-old is likely to continue his racing in benchmark company for the time being.

"James (Cummings) has placed him lovely this preparation and every time we've raised the bar a bit higher he's jumped it," stable representative Darren Beadman said.

"He added another string to his bow today by winning on soft ground here today.

"And it was poetry in motion over the last 50m. He's all quality."
