One to Watch – Kilmore

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday October 24
Two blue-blooded fillies filled the quinella in the 1600 metre maiden at Kilmore on Tuesday, both of them out of Oaks winners.

First to the post was the Mick Price trained Street Cry (IRE) filly Shropshire Lass, whose dam Gallica won the Group I MRC Thousand Guineas and the SAJC Australasian Oaks.

Street CryHaving her third start, Shropshire Lass has shown good improvement with each appearance and ran out a length and three-quarter winner over the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Princess Mia, who started favourite.

A three-quarter sister to Hong Kong Group III winner Thewizardofz, Princess Mia is by Fastnet rock from Champion NZ 3YO Filly, Princess Coup, whose four Group I wins include the New Zealand Oaks.

Retained to race by her breeders, Shropshire Lass is the second foal and second winner for Gallica, who has already foaled this spring producing a filly by Sebring.

Her current two year-old, a colt by Pierro, was bought by Alan Bell Racing for $450,000 at the Magic Millions this year and has been named Petrus.
