Juvenile Trial Watch -Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday September 25

There were two heats for juveniles run at Warwick Farm on Monday morning over 812m with both winners by I Am Invincible and Shalaa (IRE) trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott.

The colts heat jumped first with I Am Invincible colt The Three Hundred taking advantage of gate one to go through and lead for Adam Hyeronimus. Although green in his action when let down, he stayed in front to score a neck win over the Anthony Cummings trained Blue Point (IRE) colt Already Blue clocking 48.70 seconds.

In contrast to the winner, Already Blue was allowed to settle behind the first pair and get into a rhythm and steamed to the line nicely.

The Three Hundred was a $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Yarraman Park draft for Trilogy Racing Pty Ltd/Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing and is the third foal of stakes-winning Smart Missile mare Sassy ‘n’ Smart, a half-sister to Group III winner Mallory from an elite European family featuring Group I winners Nebraska Tornadio and last year’s Irish Derby winner Westover.

Runner-up Already Blue was plucked from Magic Millions for just $140,000 by his trainer from the draft of Robyn Wise, which might be a savvy buy given the burgeoning success of Blue Point who has sired a whopping 38 winners from 90 first crop runners in Europe this year, four of them stakes-winners.

The second heat for fillies was slightly quicker (48.22 seconds) with Shalaa (IRE) filly Southern Charm scoring a half length win over the Marc Conners trained Micro Magic, a daughter of Darley first season sire Microphone.

Southern Charm was very quick to jump and take the lead with Tim Clark getting her to relax in front before asking her to kick on late to hold off Micro Magic, who hot the line well.

Southern Charm was a $180,000 Magic Millions purchase.

A $180,000 Magic Millions purchase from Arrowfield Stud for Henderson Racing & Breeding Trust, Southern Charm is the first foal of In a While, a winning three-quarter sister by Redoute’s Choice to stakes-winner Wee Nessy and stakes-placed Snapback. If there is one thing we know about Shalaa, it’s that he is a great source of precocious juveniles and this filly does fit the profile.
