Matthew Smith has some nice horses in his stable heading into spring and one of the lesser lights has been quietly doing a great job with Star Witness mare Frilled resuming at Kembla on Thursday to make it three wins in as many starts.
Frilled won her first two starts at Nowra and Kembla earlier this year in April and May before picking up right where she left off in the Benchmark 64 event over 1000m.
She was tenacious to the line for Kerrin McEvoy fighting off the challenge of Zoustar stallion Another Cognac to hold a half length win.
Frilled was retained to race by her breeders and has banked over $65,000 for her three wins to date. She is the first winner for stakes-placed Sebring mare Frill Seeking, a daughter of Group III winner Vietnam, who was second in a Group I Queensland Oaks.
Frill Seeking has been a regular visitor to the Widden sires and has an unnamed two year-old filly by Zousain and has foaled this spring producing a filly by Anders.
