Weight Will Stop a Train

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 10

They always say ‘weight will stop a train’ and it stopped one of the world’s best sprinters at Sha Tin on Sunday when Lucky Sweynesse stepped out for the first time in a new season at Sha Tin only to taste defeat at the hands of a talented horse carrying 9kg less than him.

Trained by Danny Shum, five year-old Toronado (IRE) gelding Victor the Winner is very much a young sprinter on the up with five wins from his previous eight starts.

He finished last season with a second to Lucky Sweynesse in the Group III Sha Tin Vase on June 4, when he was again carrying 9kg less, but this time with two recent trial wins under his belt Victor the Winner turned the tables to the shock of punters.

Victor the Winner was not for catching and won the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup (1200m) by two and a half lengths, his sixth win from nine starts.

Winning rider Karis Teetan went in confident and felt he won the race in the first 400m when he got to the lead and was able to control the tempo.

A $180,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Golden River Investments / Mr Chu from the Collingrove Stud draft, Victor the Winner was bred by Adam Sangster and is the best of three winners from stakes-placed Cape Cross (IRE) mare Noetic, who sadly died earlier this year.
