The 2yo Better Than Ready gelding Shamedy brought his season to a close at Eagle Farm on Saturday in the same fashion as it started while compiling an exceptional record of five wins, three seconds, and a third in eleven starts.
Ridden by Les Tilley for Rockhampton-based trainer Graeme Green, Shamedy displayed exceptional courage under top weight to defeat the Spirit Of Boom filly Jack's Boom by a short neck in the Sky Racing Hcp (1400m).
The $700,000 I Am Invincible colt Misty Legend was a long neck back in third.
Shamedy has been on the go since winning on his home track at Rockhampton in November.
A $90,000 purchase for Green Racing from the Newhaven Park draft at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast, Shamedy has banked $229,500.
"He has the same owners as (Rockhampton Cup winner) Master Jamie; they are great owners who have been with us a long time," an emotional Graeme Green revealed.
"He is all ticker, this little fella. There is not much of him, and he has been humping big weights up north and performing exceptionally well.
"To come here today and do that with a big weight is a great effort.
"Les (Tilley) and I have been mates for a long time, and I had no hesitation in putting him on.
"He's had a long campaign, and this is his swansong. He'll go to the paddock tonight and hopefully return a nice 3yo."
Shamedy is one of three winners from as many to race for the winning Shamardal (USA) mare Ehtifaal.
A half-sister to the Group 1 Greyville Premiers Champion Stakes runner-up Alyaasaat (Dawn Approach), Ehtifaal had an Xtravagant filly sell to McEvoy Mitchell Racing / Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) when consigned by Newhaven Park to the 2023 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
After foaling a Flying Artie filly last spring, Ehtifaal visited Cool Aza Beel.
Lyndhurst Stud Farm's Better Than Ready has enjoyed another exceptional season with his 2yos. Only Spirit Of Boom and I Am Invincible have more than his 19 winners, while he will clock in fourth behind Snitzel, Exceed And Excel, and I Am Invincible on earnings.
