Pierro Filly Wins $175,000 VOBIS Gold Ingot

Tara Madgwick - Saturday July 22

Peter Moody believes promising Pierro filly Mollynickers has spring potential following her dominant win in the $175,000 MRC VOBIS Gold Ingot (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

A Breednet ‘One to Watch’ when breaking her maiden at her second start at Moe earlier this month, Mollynickers was taking on a much tougher field for this assignment and stepping up to 1400m, but she made the task look easy.

Well ridden by Carleen Hefel, Mollynickers settled third last on the fence an enjoyed a soft run in transit before working into the clear to surge home and win by nearly two lengths with ears pricked.

uo;She’s a nice filly, a progressive filly and she won quite comfortably with a bit in hand with ears pricked,” said Peter Moody.

“We’ll go home and a have a bit of a think now. We won this race with Boogie Dancer last year and she ended up favourite in the Thousand Guineas (G1) and running fourth, so we’ve probably got to start thinking Black Type spring carnival… when, where and how and what sort of trip.

“She gives me the feel she maybe has the scope to get out to a mile and a quarter, she’s a lovely relaxed filly… is she an Oaks filly? That’s a long bow to draw, but it’s nice to have those options.”

A $130,000 Inglis Premier purchase from Blue Gum Farm for Moody Racing, Mollynickers , Mollynickers has already won over $150,000 in prizemoney. She is the first winner for Just One Moment, a winning half-sister by More Than Ready (USA) to Group III winner One Last Dance and to the dam of stakes-winner I Am Me with the family also producing this season’s Group winning juvenile filly Russian Alliance.

Mollynickers traces back to a big international female family that has produced champion sires Storm Cat and Royal Academy so has the potential to become a very valuable broodmare in the future.

Just One Moment produced a colt by Golden Slipper winner Farnan last spring and was then covered by Dubious.
