Epicus Another Inglis Digital Success Story

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 12

Progressive Capitalist gelding Epicus was a $40,000 Inglis Digital purchase for Calibre Racing from the April (late) sale this year and has proven an outstanding investment racking up his third win for his new owners at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Now in the care of Kristen Buchanan after previously being trained by Chris Waller, Epicus won his maiden on May 25 before finishing second at Hawkesbury and then won again at Newcastle to earn a shot at midweek metro company.

Sent out favourite with Zac Lloyd on board, Epicus always looked the winner and strode clear to score by a length and a half in the 1550m Benchmark 64 event taking his overall record to three wins and two placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $107,000.

“He’s a quality horse and I think he can step through the grades nicely in the future,” said Zac Lloyd.

Epicus was bred by Orbis Bloodstock and retained before his sale as a tried horse earlier this year and is the best of two winners from Group III winning import Kiss Moon (USA), who has been a regular visitor to the Newgate sires.

She has a yearling filly and weanling colt by Brutal and was covered last spring by North Pacific.

Capitalist

Epicus is one of 129 winners this season for Newgate Farm’s Capitalist, who is the leading third crop sire by winners and stakes-winners (8) with seasonal earnings topping $9.4million.
